Hello all, hopefully you can help me out.

I am running a retail business in China and I am importing goods into China. And because my supplier is not a manufacturer, the supplies provided by them in a container has products of over 100 other suppliers. Thus, is it possible to clear the customs in China without showing a Certificate of Origin (CO)? As it is impossible to furnish the customs with 100 over COs. What are the ways to go around with this matter? Any import agent in China can be of good help.

Thanks.

Hello Natty
I am not a clearing agent based in China and so I cannot give to an absolute answer.
However, what I can say is that – as a GENERAL rule – you do NOT need a certificate of origin to clear cargo through customs. You only use a COO to clear goods through customs at a preferential rate. Are you with me? A lower rate of duty is applied for goods originating from country “X”. If you have the COO you enjoy that lower rate. But, without the COO you can still enter the goods, only now at a higher rate of duty.
The ONLY time I can see this causing you a problem is in the extreme case where the underlying goods are regulated by a quota system i.e. ONLY goods from country “X” may be imported under the quota, so the rate of duty is not relevant but the permission to import is.
With respect, I suggest you contact a local agent where you are – I am sure they will guide you without cost.
I wish you well with this – others may have an exact answer for you.

Cheers
