Bill of Lading made out to Order

When the L\C call for a Bill of Lading consigned to order

it means consigned to order to the shiper and it has two purposes:

  1. Title can be transferred by endorsement.
  2. If endoresed in blank, you should be aware that any party holding the Bill of Lading has the title to the goods.
  • Endorsement can be made on the reverse side of the Bill of Lading as follows:

B/L made out to order and blank endorsed

Your friend is right. Let the B/L show in the field consignee: "To order" and then endorse it blank on the backside of the original B/L by adding a company stamp and signing it.

Just in case: The shipper (as per B/L) and the company stamp in the blank endorsement have to be identical.

an Endorsement

It s only by endorsing the "to Order" bill of Lading that you can make it negotiable. That is the title of the goods is granted to whoever has the original bill of lading.

A stamp of your comapny suffice as an endorsement.
